To me, photography is an art of observation. (...) I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.

Working WITH ART

After finishing high-school, I became part of the media division of the auction house NEUMEISTER in my hometown Munich, Germany. Here it was part of my job to photograph and film new objects of fine and modern art for promotion. Signatures by the artist, fine touches and barely recognizable details had to be shown as good as possible for the client, who was not always able to come in to see the article in person. Pictures had to suffice before eventually agreeing to a greater transaction.

WATCH HOW I PROMOTED AUCTIONS BY FILM:

If you are in possession of artwork and masterpieces which you currently like to sell by auction, or if there is some art you might be interested in, feel free to contact NEUMEISTER for more information. My old colleagues will be pleased to welcome you. Not in Munich? Get in contact with their representatives on 6 other locations.

HERE AND THERE

Good spots for shooting are simply everywhere on this planet. Modern or ancient constructions, interesting structures and patterns, or just a tiny flower that grows out of some weeds in a crack of concrete – Details we might miss on our daily way to work. In case you are not in a real hurry, maybe just stop sometimes, take a little break and look around. Specially nowadays when smartphones have a powerful camera, it is easy as it has never been before to catch a moment spontaneously. It only takes a few seconds.

ABOUT POST-EDITING:

Sometimes a shot doesn't turn out as planned and the result might be less convincing than expected. But this shall never be the reason to delete a raw footage as long as there is enough space on the storage medium. You will be surprised what you can achieve with some post production, specially if the photo was shot in RAW or CR2.

STARS OF ELEGANCE

I once had the interesting opportunity to use two brand-new Mercedes-Benz S-Classes (2015) for practicing, but due to a time-limited availability of just 15 minutes, the shooting had to be done quickly. Without the possibility of falling back on external flashlights and reflectors, it took some time to find out the angles for best natural lighting. Now I am looking forward for an upcoming planned shooting with oldtimers and sports cars, where I want to use the experiences I gained back then.

WHERE TIME STANDS STILL

Piacere Nuovo, a small but lovely italian restaurant, where you can find your very personal Little Italy in the heart of Munich, Germany. It does not matter if you are looking for a delicious and romantic dinner, or just a calm place to enjoy a cup of espresso while reading your newspaper. - Here you are an ever-welcome guest!

Shortly after this shooting, I became part of a very small but qualified team with which I created a short movie presentation about the Piacere. So feel free and take a closer look at what is behind the photos.

A LITTLE TRIBUTE

An history that ends after almost 40 years of sky reaching ups and vast downs. Unfortunately the final economic air pocket was to much for the famous german company. Air Berlin was an airline me and my family have flown with for many years during holidays for vacation. Of course we had to deal with some issues we were not happy about while choosing Air Berlin, but these issues and problems have been shared by every other single airline on the market regularly. Nothing special. Air Berlin lost the competition, but will remain as a part of memories we connect to many beautiful travels all around the world.

ON THE FLY

Carpenter Bee

Sagres, Portugal

There are eight different species of Carpenter Bees that can be found in Europe. It looked similar to a normal bumblebee, but with a deep black color. The insect behaved calm and not aggressive during this close shot.

Robinson R22 Beta II

Oberschleissheim, Germany

While visiting an airfield close to my hometown for spotting planes, this helicopter showed up.

Key Kitten

Key West, Florida, USA

During my first visit of the Southernmost Point of the continental USA, I found this kitten laying in the shadow next to a little Hard Rock Cafe.
